I have always been interested in country music. From the time that I was 12 years old, my favorite country artists were George Jones, Patsy Cline, Faron Young and Connie Smith. In 1966 I was working for the Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee, Florida. I had the opportunity to meet Dottie West who was putting on a show there. I knew from that moment that I wanted to be part of country music.
I began my Country Radio career at WFIV 1080 AM in Kissimmee in 1967. I also worked at WJPB in Kissimmee, WHBO in Tampa and then at 50,000 watt WHOO 990 in Orlando, Florida, which at that time was the premier country station in Central Florida.
In 1970 I left the radio business to serve my country. I enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. What was supposed to be a four year tour ended up as 24 year career. I served at various commands state side, overseas and underway aboard 3 different ships, the Androscoggin, the Courageous and the Chase. I retired in 1993 having achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Upon my military retirement, I returned to radio at WCNC in Elizabeth City, NC, from there I went to WKJX Kix Country in Elizabeth City. In 1996 I was asked to join the crew at Dixie 105.7, and I have enjoyed every minute of it since then.
I live in Currituck County with my lovely wife Shelley who is a Professional Wedding and Portrait Photographer, and with our dog, a female Dalmatian named Kacy. We have 6 adult children and 8 grandchildren some of whom live in North Carolina and some in Florida.
